Versatility on the Grill: Extra Tomatoes for Grill
Extra grilling tomatoes, also known as roasting tomatoes, are a variety of tomato specially grown to be grilled or roasted in the oven. They are medium to large-sized tomatoes, pear-shaped, with thick and firm skin. Their skin appears bright red and uniform, with some characteristic wrinkles in the calyx area.
In terms of composition, tomatoes for grilling are rich in nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium, and lycopene, an antioxidant that gives them their characteristic red color and has been shown to have health benefits. There are several varieties of grilling tomatoes, some of them of Italian origin. In Spain, a very popular variety is the Daniela tomato.
